Nominees for the 40th anniversary of The Dora Mavor Moore Awards are out.
The awards, presented by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts, celebrate the best in theatre, opera, and dance and honor the late Dora Mavor Moore, a beloved teacher, director, and champion of the performing arts.
2019 Nominees in Theatre
Soulpepper Theatre Company’s musical “Rose” received 11 nominations, including Outstanding Production, Outstanding New Musical, and Outstanding Direction. “Rose” also earned the most nominations for an individual theatre production.
In total, Soulpepper received 25 nominations.
Young People’s Theatre received 17 nominations, including nine for “Mary Poppins.”
Obsidian Theatre has 10 nominations, seven of which are for “School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play.”
Cargo Theatre’s “The Runner” received seven nominations, including Outstanding Production and Outstanding New Play in the Independent Theatre Division.
Rick Miller will host the 40th Dora Awards. Miller is known for productions such as “BOOM” and “MacHomer.”
The Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, soon to be Meridian Theatre, will host the ceremony on Tuesday, June 25. For more information, visit the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts website.
