Why I Publish Stratford Festival Reviews

Two years ago Mike Bullard interviewed me on Toronto’s CFRB 1010. The interview, below, explains the story about why I launched this website.

Many years ago I produced Canada’s most popular late night TV talk show “Open Mike With Mike Bullard.”

At its peak the show had more weekly viewers in Canada than the “Late Show with David Letterman.” Working with the great people at Insight Productions, the company behind “Top Chef Canada”, “Canadian Idol” and “Battle of the Blades” was a highlight of my career.

Although launching a new TV show was a ton of work, I really enjoyed starting it from scratch, creating content and building an audience.

It’s the same reason I continued to publish this site.

Local Theatre

Every year more and more people like you visit this site. I get inspiring feedback from people who attend theatre, not just at Stratford, but more importantly in their home town.

For many, it’s the local theatre that sparks an interest, and provides a supportive environment to help young people pursue their dreams.

I also get great feedback from the theatres and business that advertise on the site, and I’m happy to help them build their businesses as they support mine (although in the interview you’ll learn that this site doesn’t make a profit).

Below is the audio interview with Mike on his CFRB Radio show in Toronto. The audio features us talking about this site Straford Festival Reviews, but as always with Mike, the interview went slightly off topic.

Incidentally, these days I teach journalism at Western University, Canada. As much as possible I try to share my passion for the Arts and radio with my students.

This summer I’ll be even posting more blog stories.
Plus new this year: Reviews from The Shaw Festival!

Traditional arts journalism is in decline. Now more than ever, this independent website and our podcast fill a growing void. We've had over 1.5 million page views, and are grateful that you are here. We rely on readers — and a handful of advertisers who share our values — to make our work possible. When we raised funds for our podcast, The "Performers Podcast," the average donation from people like you was $96. Now we hope you’ll join us in augmenting our coverage of arts in the region by making a one-time donation today.
