Traditional arts journalism is in decline. Now more than ever, this independent website and our podcast fill a growing void. We've had over 1.5 million page views, and are grateful that you are here. We rely on readers — and a handful of advertisers who share our values — to make our work possible. When we raised funds for our podcast, The "Performers Podcast," the average donation from people like you was $96. Now we hope you’ll join us in augmenting our coverage of arts in the region by making a one-time donation today.

Toronto Star - Karen Fricker

Initially engaging

“the show shines thanks to the actors’ splendid work bringing the characters’ vivid personalities to life and evoking the passions and travails of the March family during the American Civil War era. Its excessive length, though, weighs it down…
I’d have liked to have been dancing with them, but the length of the show wore me out.”

The Passionate Playgoer - Lynn Slotkin

Smart

“Mand has captured that innocence and decency of the March family but also incorporated that each girl is a person onto themselves: feisty, impatient, selfish, loving, quiet, accommodating and confident to name just a few complex aspects of these four sisters…

Esther Jun’s direction is smart, impish, thoughtful, with unexpected surprises and ultimately lovely in serving the play.”

Stage Door - Christopher Hoile

Thoroughly unengaging

“Mand’s adaptation is thoroughly unengaging, a problem compounded by a confused directorial vision, odd design choices and poor acting…The superficiality of Mand’s adaptation is exacerbated by Esther Jun’s clashing directorial choices and Teresa Przybylski’s peculiar design. Jun imposes three different concepts on the production none of which enlightens the work.

Many people will enjoy Little Women just because they will get the chance to see their favourite characters on stage. People with no previous connection to the novel may wonder what all the fuss is about. “
