I snuck into a preview performance of “Something Rotten” at the Stratford Festival along with a friend who had yet to see a show there, is unfamiliar with Shakespeare’s works, and admits he isn’t a fan of musicals.
Perfect, I thought. If this show gets my friend laughing, it’ll tickle anyone’s funny bone.
More than a musical, “Something Rotten” is a brilliant satire with the wittiest wordplay I’ve seen recently. My friend enjoyed it so much he’s already purchased tickets to see it again, this time with his neighbours.
Below is your chance to WIN TICKETS!
Technically, it’s not good form to write about a show while it’s in previews because the company are still working on it. Nevertheless, “Something Rotten” at the Stratford Festival was so much fun I decided to break the unwritten rule and share my enthusiasm before it opened on Tuesday, May 28th. If you’re considering seeing the show, don’t wait to purchase your tickets because once the official reviews are out, tickets will sell fast!
A Few Reasons Why You Can’t Miss Something Rotten at the Stratford Festival.
1. A Hilarious Musical Comedy
“Something Rotten” is a side-splitting musical comedy that takes a hilarious look at the world of theatre. Filled with clever jokes, catchy songs, and over-the-top characters, I was laughing and tapping my toes from start to finish.
2. A Fresh Twist on the Bard
Let’s be honest; if you’re like me, you’ve nodded off a few times during the Bard’s boring moments.
This show cleverly parodies the works of William Shakespeare, offering a fresh and entertaining perspective on the iconic playwright. If you’re a fan of the Bard, you’ll love seeing his most famous plays turned on their heads in this irreverent production.
If not, there’s plenty of fun, regardless. The choreography will leave you breathless. The feel-good vibes and comedy ensure you’ll leave the theatre with a smile on your face.
3. Something Rotten at the Stratford Festival is Perfect for All Ages
The whole family will enjoy the laughter, music, and pure entertainment. Whether you’re a seasoned theatregoer or a first-time attendee, “Something Rotten” offers a much needed dose of joy and escapism in our uncertain world.
4. Broadway in Your Backyard
With the launch of “Something Rotten” at the Stratford Festival, you can enjoy world-class theatre right in your backyard. You don’t have to travel to New York City to experience the magic of Broadway.
Mark Uhre, who plays Nick Bottom, performed on Broadway in “Les Misérables!” Director Donna Feore Donna has also worked on Broadway; critics and artists worldwide have celebrated her work.
TV fans might recognize several cast members from CBC TV’s Murdoch Mysteries.
