Here’s a sneak peek inside day 1 of training for Cirque du Soleil’s “KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities.” The Toronto production is set to make its premiere on April 14, 2022.
The video below, from inside Cirque du Soleil’s creative headquarters in Montreal, shows the excitement of the artists preparing for what critics have hailed as one of the most over-the-top shows in Cirque du Soleil’s renowned repertoire.
The “KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities” cast of 49 artists from 17 countries began arriving in Montreal in January. Their training takes place at a 387,500 square foot multiplex that includes three acrobatic training rooms, dance studio, gym and production theatre.
Upside-Down Training for KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities
Watch the cast practice for Banquine, the demanding acrobatic skill of human-flying, moving through the air from one person to another; acro-net training to master propelling oneself upwards of 40 feet in the air and landing jaw-dropping falls; and upside-down training where artists hang inverted in the air for long increments of time – up to 3 mins — to adjust to the sensory effects of being upside down.
In addition to physical training, artists are beginning to immerse themselves in the process of performing in elaborate costumes, practicing facial expressions, choreography, and creating their own make-up!
