Drayton Entertainment to produce Les Misérables

Drayton Entertainment’s Artistic Director Alex Mustakas today announced “Les Misérables” as the organization’s flagship production for the 2014 Season.Alex Mustakas les Miserable, Drayton

A press release announcing the production notes that Mustakas has been trying for years to secure the rights to one of the biggest and most successful productions in Broadway history.

“It has been a personal dream to bring this musical to our audience,” says Mustakas. “’Les Misérables’ is without a doubt the most ambitious production in our organization’s history. We are invigorated by the challenges inherent with mounting a true mega musical.”Drayton, alex mustakas, les miserables

The show will debut at the Dunfield Theatre Cambridge June 11th to August 2nd, before moving to the Huron County Playhouse Aug 7 – Aug 30.

Securing the rights to such a popular production is another bold move by Mustakas, who runs one of Canada’s most successful theatre operations. I interviewed Mustakas for my podcast “The Inadeqauet Life.” He talks about squaring his love of theatre with his father’s advice about being a good business man and Drayton’s philosophical approach to growth. Based on the Victor Hugo novel, “Les Misérables” was created by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg, the same team behind “Miss Saigon.”

One of the most celebrated musicals of our time, “Les Misérables” is the longest running musical in the word. It has entertained more than 65 million people in 42 countries around the world with translations into 21 different languages. The stage production was only translated back into the language of Victor Hugo for its French World Première in Montréal, Quebec, in 1991.
