Broadway Sensation, Waitress, Makes its Canadian Debut at The Grand in London On.

June 17, 2024

Tickets are now available for the highly anticipated Canadian debut* of the internationally acclaimed Broadway and West End sensation, ‘Waitress,’ in London, Ontario, on March 28, 2025. With music and lyrics by Grammy Award Winning Sara Bareilles, “Waitress” has captivated audiences worldwide with its soulful melodies and relatable story.

The Canadian premiere of “Waitress,” the musical about a small-town girl with big dreams (and a diner full of pies) that stole hearts around the world, is a co-production with Theatre Aquarius.

Directed by Grand Theatre artistic director Rachel Peake, the Canadian production of ‘Waitress’ is a testament to the vibrant and growing entertainment sector in London, Ontario. This production, from design to development, is a product of London’s creative energy. After its Canadian debut at the Grand Theatre, ‘Waitress’ will continue to serve audiences at Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius.

Musical director, Patrick Bowman, a graduate of Western University’s BMus and MMus programs in Voice Performance, and an alumni of The Shaw Festival’s Music Internship, returns to the Grand after his successful turn as musical director in the Grand’s critically acclaimed production of “Million Dollar Quartet.”

Time Out New York’s review of “Waitress” by David Cote included this playful line:
“Fresh and delicious, Waitress has an excellent ratio of sweet to tart; supporting characters who provide crustiness (Dakin Matthews’s grumbly store owner) and flakiness (Christopher Fitzgerald’s loony admirer of another waitress); and cooked-to-perfection staging by Diane Paulus. The whole dish is—please forgive me—love at first bite.”

That Broadway production had an impressive but rare all-women team at the helm, with Diane Paulus as director, Sara Bareilles as composer and lyricist, Jessie Nelson as book adaptor and Lorin Latarro as choreographer.

*On June 22, 2024, the first French adaption of “Waitress” opens at Espace St-Denis at Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal and will move to Salle Albert-Rousseau in Quebec City.
