The Stratford Summer Music Cabaret series at Revival House is a fabulous opportunity to see world class talent in a luxurious setting.
This year’s lineup builds on the success of last year, with the always entertaining Carole Pope making a return appearance after last year’s sold out show. Also on the bill is the not to be missed Michael Occhipinti Jazz Ensemble’s “Shine On: The Universe of John Lennon.”
The first cabaret on the bill is Patricia o’Callaghan’s “The Music of Leonard Cohen and His Contemporaries.” The Saturday July 23rd performance has already sold out.
I would be willing to bet that the remaining Cabaret performances will also sell out. Each promises to be a thrilling night of music. Ticketing details are below.
1) A Sondheim Jazz Project, Saturday August 6
I had the chance to hear them perform earlier this year and highly recommend the show.
NPR’s Francis Davis chose “A Sondheim Jazz Project’s” CD “City of Strangers” as an honorable mention in their “Best Jazz Albums of 2014” category.
Beautiful, intelligent songs are made stylistically legible to people who might otherwise reject “show tunes” out of hand; for theatre folk, “A Sondheim Jazz Project” presents a fresh engagement with the underlying power of material that may have become too familiar from cabarets and auditions.

2) Carole Pope, Saturday, August 13
August 13, Carole Pope returns to Revival House.
Pope’s sold out show last year was electric.
I had the chance to interview Carole for my iTunes podcast. She was very candid about her songwriting process, her recording “Music for Lesbians” and her book “Anti-Diva” a no-holds-barred look at her adventures in the music scene – on the concert stage, in the recording studio, and in the bedroom.

3) Michael Occhipinti Jazz Ensemble, Saturday August 27
“Shine On: the Universe of John Lennon” is the name of the concert.
Michael Occhipinti is joined by a spectacular group of some of Canada’s most renowned musicians, performing music by John Lennon and the Beatles uniquely arranged by Michael Occhipinti himself.
Watch this haunting rendition of “Across The Universe” and imagine seeing it performed live in the beautiful, candle lit Revival House.
