In it he delves into Ibsen’s iconic roles for women and the societal changes that frame these productions.

Illustrating one of the changes since “The Lady From the Sea” was written, Nestruck cites a quote from sex therapist Esther Perel:

“Divorce used to carry all the shame. Today, staying when you can leave is the new shame.”

His story is an excellent companion to Shaw’s production of “The Lady From the Sea.”
