Colm Feore is starring in a new Netflix series, with fellow Canadian actor Ellen Page. “The Umbrella Academy” is based on the comic series written by Gerard Way from the rock band My Chemical Romance.
The show centres around a dysfunctional family, the Hargreeves, who are all superheroes working together to solve their father’s mysterious death.
Feore will be playing The Monocle (Sir Reginald Hargreeves), an Olympic gold medalist, and recipient of the Nobel Prize for his work in the cerebral advancement of the chimpanzee but a cold and calculating man who never showed any love for the kids he adopted. Tom Hopper is playing Spaceboy and Robert Sheehan will take on the role of The Séance. Mary J Blige, Kate Walsh, and Mindhunter’s Cameron Britton will also appear on the program.
Visual effects veteran Steve Dellerson (“Black Swan,” “Pan’s Labyrinth,” “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Life of Pi”) is a producer on the show.
No release date has been set.
The show is filming in downtown Toronto. This doughnut shop, on Queen St. across from the Gladstone Hotel, is dressed with “Griddy’s Doughnuts” branding for the series. The “United States Postal Service” mailbox tipped off locals who thought they were getting an alternative to Tim’s and Krispy Kreme.
