There's the occasional trademark burst of wit and the odd line to cherish and mull over but this, after all, is the man who has dazzled us with such internationally acclaimed hits as The Overcoat and Vigil. (Morris Panych's reply in Toronto Star letters to the editor)

Coulbourne covers 3 studio production in one story. The Trespassers "starts out as a leisurely and delightful voyage into the heart of a dysfunctional family, but then Panych suddenly goes all Of Mice And Men on us..."

Nestruck has praise for the actors and writes the play "is full of juicy epigrams and insights that linger." However he notes that the plot is "unfocused and more than a tad treacly."

Morris Panych, who wrote and directed The Trespassers, is to the Canadian theatre scene what Johnny Cash was to American popular music – a towering, almost universally respected figure whose contributions are sometimes off-kilter but always recognized as his.
